Founded in 2007, Mil Mujeres provides direct legal services in the area of immigration law to low-income Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence, physical assault, sexual assault, and human trafficking, and to Spanish-speaking immigrant children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned.
We currently provide direct legal services with U-visas and VAWA self-petitions:
Designed to provide immigration status to non-citizen victims of domestic violence, and certain other crimes, that are assisting or are willing to assist authorities investigating crimes.
self-petition: (Violence Against Women Act): allows battered non-citizens who are married to, or recently divorced from US Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents, to self-petition to obtain Lawful Permanent Residence.
Designed to provide immigration status to non-citizen victims of human trafficking that are willing to report the crime and cooperate with authorities.
